Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Highland.

POSITION TITLE: Ship’s Crane Operator
DEPARTMENT Material Management / Supply Services (T-SHED / Stevedoring)
POSITION REPORT TO: Freight Terminal Manager

 

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs cargo loading and unloading and stevedoring services to ensure cargo is properly loaded/unloaded in a timely manner.
  • Provides transportation services to ensure supplies are properly shipped in a safe and timely manner to meet customer needs.
  • Operates shipboard winches, cranes, or booms on all vessels unless notified by the Government.
  • Loads and unloads supplies and equipment from ships, docks, warehouses, and motor vehicles, and moves hazardous materials as required.
  • Helps coordinate the movement of materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work sites.
  • Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including trench safety and wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.

 

 BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the lift supervisor, rigger(s), the signal person(s), and other affected employees on site.
  • Must demonstrate their ability to read, write and comprehend the language of the crane manufacturer’s operation and maintenance instruction materials, exhibit acceptable arithmetic skills and load/capacity chart usage, and use written manufacturer procedures applicable to the type and configuration of equipment for which qualification is being sought.
  • Must be familiar with ships crane operations including crane capacities and limitations, as well as problems and deficiencies that may exist for the crane being operated.
  • Must be qualified and technically competent in Weight Handling Equipment, Material Handling Equipment, and Ordinance Handling Equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Must have an excellent understanding of all safety directives and policies regarding the operation of equipment.
  • Must speak, read, and understand the English language.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with the following license codes (2 & 3 or B, B1, B2, C, D) for operating crane equipment, and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • Hazardous Materials Handling Certification for DOT 49 CFR Transportation Regulations
  • HAZCOM Training
  • Fall Protection Training
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Training
  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Operator Training

EDUCATION

  • Must have at least a High School Diploma is required.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience as a Ship’s Crane Operator.

 

Basic terms of the job offer

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $1038.00 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.
  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.
  • Project Holidays: 10 paid holidays. New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, President’s Day, Philippine Independence Day, USA Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day

 

Other requirements

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.
  • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).
  • Updated covid vaccination certificate
  • Medical exam report at a date to be advised.
