Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Island.

POSITION TITLE: CORROSION CONTROL SPECIALIST

DEPARTMENT: BSVE TRANSPORTATION

POSITION REPORT TO: SUPERVISOR, BODY & FENDER

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect body and frame damage to determine feasibility and best method of repair and painting.

  • Prepare vehicles surfaces for painting, sand body areas to be painted, and cover bumpers, windows, and trim with masking tape or paper to protect them from the paint.

  • Remove old patient and rust by scraping, grinding, sanding and brushing or applying paint remover.

  • Apply neutralizing and chemical conditioning solutions to bare metal surfaces.

  • Follow supervisor’s instructions as to which parts to restore or replace and how much time the job should take.

  • Locate surface irregularities with pile, light or hand.

  • Repair locks, latches, remote control window regulators, window channels and wooden body parts.

  • Remove, install adjust and align body components, such fenders, doors, door panels, hoods, deck lids, grills, bumpers, roofs and quarter panels.

  • Removes and replaces weather and chapping strips.

  • Remove glazed, cracked or broken safety glass.

  • Cuts laminated safety glass using patterns, cutters, pliers, electric resistant wire and plastic cutting knife.

  • Grinds, levels and smoothens edges of glass using a glass edging machine.

  • Install glass in bodies and doors.

  • Replace curved surface glass with factory replacements

  • Mix polyester resins and hardeners to be used in restoring damaged areas

  • Chain or clamp frames and sections to alignment machines that use hydraulic pressure to align damaged components.

  • Fit and weld replacement parts into place, using wrenches and welding equipment and grind down welds to smooth them, using power grinders and other tools.

  • Position dolly blocks against surfaces of dented areas and beat opposite surfaces to remove dents, using hammers.

  • Remove damaged panels and identify the family and properties of the plastic used on a vehicle.

  • Apply body filler to build up depressed areas.

  • Smooth filled areas until uniform in contour with adjoining areas.

  • Must work in a safe manner and ensure minimum loss or breakage of tools under control.

  • Clean work areas, using air hoses, to remove damaged material and discarded fiberglass strips used in repair procedures.

  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor, body & fender.

BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must speak, read and understand English language.

  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.

  • Must have a valid country Driver’s License with restriction code 2,3.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING:

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of High School with courses in shop mathematics, metal working, electrical or mechanical drawing is desirable.

EXPERIENCE:

    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in automotive body and fender work is required.

    • Knowledge of the characteristics of materials.

    • Metal repair and fabrication by oxyacetylene, metallic arc, inert gas-shield arc on forging processes.

    • Metal heat-treating.

    • Principles of welding and forging.

    • Use and capacity of welding equipment.

    • Shop drawing and mathematics.

    • Metal measurement and layout devices.

    • Safety codes and practices regarding explosive gases and hazardous rays are mandatory.

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.

  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $ 570 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)

  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)

  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.

  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.

  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided

  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.

  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.

  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.

  • Project Holidays: 10 paid holidays. New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, President’s Day, Philippine Independence Day, USA Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day

Other requirements

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.

  • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).

  • Updated COVID and yellow fever vaccination certificate.
