DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repairs / rewinds electric motors from fractional hp to 250 horsepower.
- Interprets and reviews wiring / electrical motor schematic drawing or diagrams and performs troubleshooting, repair and/or overhauling of electrical motors using precision tools and equipment.
- Reviews work orders and rewind coils on core while in slots manually or make replacement coils using coil-winding machine. Examines sample coils to ascertain / determine type and size of magnetic wire specified, and the type, size, length and circumference of primary and secondary windings of coil to be wound.
- Disassembles / assembles and tests electric motor and generator stators, armatures, or rotors; inspects cores for defects and aligns laminations, using hammer and drift. Files burrs from core slots, using hand file, portable power file, and scraper. Lines slots with sheet insulation and inserts coils into slots. Cuts, strips, and bends wire leads at ends of coils, using pliers and wire scrapers. Twists leads together to connect coils. Taps coil and end windings to shape, using hammer and fiber block.
- Test windings for motor-housing clearance, grounds, and short circuits using clearance gauge, growler, spring-steel blade, insulation tester, and Resistance Bridge. Winds, cotton, glass mica, paper, or tape around coil; brushes varnish on coil or dips coil in varnish, epoxy, or wax to reinforce and seal coil; and bake new or re-varnished coils / windings prior to reassemble to motors or generators.
- Incumbent is assigned in Electrical Shop and performs the duties/assignments of a Marine Electrician, as required.
- Maintains awareness to safety requirements and all work areas clean and in good housekeeping.
- Performs other duties as required to support contract requirements of A-06.
BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must demonstrate a clear knowledge of electrical trade theory & National Electrical Code.
- Must have knowledge and be able to use or operate electrical test equipment & tools.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret electrical / electronic / mechanical schematic drawings, sketches, or blueprints.
- Must speak, read, and understand English language both orally and in writing.
- Must pass the overseas medical screening and be in good health.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING
- Certified PQS 301 (Maintenance Personnel), Personnel Qualification Standard for Ship Maintenance and Material Management (3M) System.
- Certified Electrician/Motor Rewinder and with trade school training in Shop Mathematics and Electrical or Mechanical Drawing.
EDUCATION:
- High School graduate and vocational course related to Industrial or Shipboard Electrical Technology and Motor Rewinding.
- A degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred but not necessary.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) year experience in electrical motor rewinding, maintenance and repair or 4-years full apprenticeship training in motor rewinding.
Basic terms of the job offer.
- Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
- Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $734.00 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
- Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
- Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
- Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.
- Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
- Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
- Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
- Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.
