Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Highland.

POSITION TITLE: INSTALLER / TECHNICIAN
DEPARTMENT TELEPHONE SYSTEM AND SERVICES
POSITION REPORT TO: ASSISTANT MANAGER, TELEPHONE SYSTEM AND SERVICES

 

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs troubleshoots, and repairs telecommunications equipment, data/voice/CATV cabling including computer, telephone copper, and fiber optic cable, and installs/programs and moves telephones.
  • Responds to telephone trouble desk calls, repair and resolve telecommunication problems.
  • On call 24/7.
  • Maintain documents and secures all telecom closets/equipment rooms including labeling telephone or cabling equipment.
  • Performs a wide range of services, from basic repairs to full installation.
  • Utilizes customer service skills to ensure phone systems are configured and programmed according to customer needs.
  • Performs tests and inspections on cable communication systems to ensure circuit and system quality.
  • Tests circuits/groups to detect and locate line faults.
  • Operates manual and motorized cable construction equipment. Clears and maintains rights of way.
  • Operates and performs preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on the telephone line and other vehicles.
  • Coordinates remote trunking operations with Switching Central Office personnel.
  • Checks and performs maintenance on wire and cable systems and associated communications equipment and other infrastructure.
  • Ensures PMCS and maintenance functions are performed IAW published schedules.
  • Develop standards and specifications for splice drawings and prepare drawings per the specifications.
  • Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal).
  • Develop splicing diagrams and designs to facilitate network architecture.
  • Provides management with detailed reports of field splicing activity.
  • Maintains fiber asset inventory and splicing records.
  • Organize splicing as-built files utilizing software packages for in-house copper and fiber cable inventory and route designs.
  • This profession has some inherent dangers, such as working in confined spaces and sometimes extreme weather.
  • Coordinates with the lead man on matters concerning splicing practices and procedures.
  • Communicates with BCO and supervisor on workload status to meet designated goals.
  • Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns and answering questions.
  • Promotes a safe work environment in all areas by practicing good housekeeping and adhering to codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Coordinates team logistic requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.

 

 BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • No fear of heights and mechanically inclined in the use of hand tools and no color blindness.
  • Ability to interact effectively with other team members.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and quickly changing work environment with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to perform fusion or mechanical splice single mode (SM) or multi-mode (MM) fiber optic cables to include terminating various types of fiber optic connectors (ST, SC, LC).
  • Must be familiar with Fiber Optic and Copper cable, installation, and splicing techniques (fusion and MS2 connector).
  • Must be familiar with the installation and testing of pressurized and non-pressurized closures on all types and sizes of cable.
  • Must be able to work independently without supervision.
  • Must possess administrative, organizational, and computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills which enable me to effectively liaise with clients, other departments within the organization, subcontractors, and clients, and report directly to the Senior Management.
  • Must speak, read, and understand the English Language.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • The installers/technicians assigned to the installation and operation of this system or any of its components shall be BICSI Registered Technician Level certified or higher.
    • BICSI Installer 1 (INST1)
    • BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC)
    • BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF)
    • BICSI Technician (TECH)
  • Completed TESDA course with the National Certification is a plus:
    • Telecom OSP Installation (Fiber Optic Cable) – NC II
    • Telecom OSP and Subscriber Line Installation (Copper Cable/POTS and DSL) – NC II

 

EDUCATION:

  • Must have at least a High School diploma, a Technical School or Vocational Course graduate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • In lieu of BICSI certification, the installers assigned to the installation/maintenance of this system or any of its components shall have a minimum of three years of experience in “standards-based” installation of the specified copper and fiber optic cable and components.
  • Must have telecommunications industry or factory-approved certification from each equipment manufacturer indicating that they are qualified to install and test the provided products.
  • Experience and knowledge using Copper and Fiber Optic test equipment (JDSU, FLUKE, and OTDR).

 

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $810.00 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.
  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.

Other requirements

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.
  • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).
  • Updated covid vaccination certificate
