Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Highland.

POSITION TITLE: SHIPWRIGHT / INSULATOR
DEPARTMENT PORT OPERATIONS
POSITION REPORT TO: SUPERVISOR, CRANE RIGGER

 

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance of vessel or craft and industrial plant equipment cognizant to A-06 Port Operations and all related marine carpentry works, marine insulation work, including but not limited to:
  1. Fabrication and installation of docking blocks, cradles, support structures and shoring in accordance with docking plan, blueprint, or sample as work guide, and attends dry-docking of boats and crafts, assisting Dock Master in centering of vessel during dry-docking evolution.
  2. Carpentry or wood-workings are associated in the repair and fabrication of miscellaneous structures in the facility. Studies drawings/sketches for information pertaining to design and type of materials to be used and performs fabrication using hand or powered tools and other industrial plant equipment in the Carpentry shop.
  3. Repair of fiberglass structures, fiberglass insulations and other insulating materials for the absorption of heat, prevention of moisture condensation and muffling of sound on various structures, machineries, and piping system.
  4. Vinyl/ceramic tile installation and repair, including application/installation/repair of deck covering, grout laying, underlayment to suit repair or installation of tiles.
  5. Erection or construction of scaffolding to support work above ground level.
  6. Performance of assigned scheduled (PMS) maintenance requirements on boats, crafts and IPEs, compliant with US Navy 3M System.
  7. Support to maintenance and repairs of Syncrolift Shiplift & Transfer System.
  • Maintains awareness of safety requirements and all work areas clean and in good housekeeping.
  • Performs other duties as required to support contract requirements of A-06.

 

 BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Familiar in structural system of U.S. Navy ships and/or commercial vessels.
  • Knowledge in blueprint reading and technical drawings, shop mathematics, basic carpentry techniques, ceramic/vinyl tile installation or setting and fiberglass insulation processes.
  • Must speak, read, and understand English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
  • Knowledge in Carpentry Shop electric powered equipment such as; dust collector, plainer, table saw, band saw, radial saw, miter saw, wood lathe, including gas engine power chain saws.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • Certified PQS 301 (Maintenance Personnel), Personnel Qualification Standard for Ship Maintenance and Material Management (3M) System.

EDUCATION:

  • High School graduate and vocational or apprenticeship course related to carpentry, shipwright trade and fiberglass work.

EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) year experience as Shipwright in Naval Ship Repair Facility, commercial shipyards/industries or as a Carpenter in building construction and maintenance, with knowledge in plastic reinforced/fiberglass work.

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $500.40 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday, will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.
  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.

Other requirements

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 12 months, with at least 6 total blank visa pages remaining.
  • Your driver’s license must be valid for at least 6 months (unless processing for a CDL-required position, which will require 12 months remaining).
  • Updated covid vaccination certificate
  • Medical exam report at a date to be advised.
