Our client a multinational organization with offices in several continents is urgently looking to fill vacancies for their operation at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean Island.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is located at the Unaccompanied Housing, U.S. Navy Support Facility, Diego Garcia, B.I.O.T. The purpose of this position is to provide onsite building monitor for assigned UH building. The supervisor and or manager provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, the limitation, quantity, and the priority or deadline of assigned work tasks. The incumbent is given wide latitude in exercising independent initiative and sound judgment in the execution of duties and responsibilities related to monitoring UH buildings. Situations involving unfamiliar problems not covered by instructions are referred to the supervisors and/or manager for resolution. Work assignments (completed and in-progress) are spot-checked on a daily basis via documented inspection reports to assure that work practices, techniques, records, and other functions are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions.

  1. Ensures the highest standards of total quality and customer service are maintained.
  2. Ensure resident privacy and security is maintained at all times.
  3. Act as primary point of contact between residents and management.
  4. Must possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude; demonstrate effective communication skills; professionally interact with residents; answering resident question concerning housing facilities; and provide information about local attractions. Provide assistance in handling resident complaints, involving management as necessary. Immediately report to supervisor/manager breaches of discipline found in assigned building upon detection.
  5. Perform daily inspections of assigned areas, vacant rooms, and common areas (i.e. walkways, hallways, stairways, toilet, lounges, laundry, storeroom, picnic gazebo, smoking shelter, bike shelter, etc.) checking for cleanliness and detect maintenance problems. Conducts other inspections as requested.
  6. Participate in all announced and unannounced inspections of assigned building. Act as an escort when Public Works or other contractors require access to rooms and common areas. Monitor work of custodial, maintenance, and other workers in assigned building, and report discrepancies to the supervisor and/or manager.
  7. Perform operational and minor maintenance actions including but not limited to: change the battery of alarm/wall clocks and TV/DVD/CD remote controls; change light bulbs of lamps; and monthly inspection of fire extinguishers. Initiate maintenance service calls (routine or emergency) by reporting discrepancies, inclusive of energy and water conservation, to the Front Desk, supervisor, or manager. Follow up on all corrective actions to ensure completion and satisfaction of the resident.
  8. Responsible to maintain a baggage storeroom and ensure security of all items. Coordinate updated inventory of residents’ stored personal gear, and provide updated tags to Front Desk.
  9. Ensure vacant rooms are ready for occupancy. Upon resident check-out, check condition of room assets and report problems, if any, to supervisor or manager. Notify supervisor of any valuables (i.e. large amounts of cash, jewelry, electronic gadgets, etc.) left by checked out resident before cleaning the room. Complete all cleaning duties as required, which includes, but is not limited to: dust/polish furniture; move furniture and clean normally hidden areas; trash removal and replace wastebasket liners; vacuum, mop and/or sweep floors; clean/sanitize bathroom and kitchen areas to include sinks, showers, tubs, toilets, floors, microwaves, ovens or cooktops, counters cupboards); make beds and remove/change bedding; replenish supplies and restock amenities; carpet cleaning (shampoo and/or spot treatment); defrost refrigerator and freezer as applicable.
  10. Cleaning may require the use of floor buffer and carpet cleaning machine. Read and follow written direction from manufacturer and/or supervisor on the proper use of all equipment and chemicals. Ensure equipment is properly maintained, stored and accounted for. Clean filters, equipment, and promptly inform supervisor of missing, malfunctioning or damaged items in rooms and/or common areas. Process request for replacement of defective, unserviceable, and/or damaged appliances and equipment.
  11. Complete room status report. Provide and coordinate status of all assigned rooms (vacant, ready, checkout, occupied) with supervisor or Front Desk, and turn in report of each work day. Maintain documentation of work performed on a daily basis.
  12. Count and sort linen removed in-room, along with clean linen issued during assigned shift. Sort, fold, bundle, and issue/return linen in accordance with established instructions. Prepare linen in/out report as applicable and turn over to Warehouseman, ensuring any missing/damaged linen is reported. Process request form to replenish supplies, amenities, and linen for approval by supervisor. Ensure items are available when required.
  13. Perform custodial duties as required inside and outside of assigned building including but not limited to: trash/garbage removal, sweep, dust, mop, vacuum, wash walls/windows and entry doors, clean sills, and sanitize public toilets, bathrooms, and kitchens. Clean all lobbies, passageways, stairwells, public restrooms, and other common use areas in and around assigned building. Sweep, mop, dust, and empty trash in order to maintain cleanliness of laundry and storage areas. Maintain appearance of external areas of assigned building, to include walkways, entryways, paths, sidewalks and/or driveways, as applicable. Rake/shovel to ensure areas are clear of leaves and dirt to ensure resident safety. Remove weeds and unwanted plants from building cracks, joints, and crevices that can be reached by hand. Maintain and ensure cleanliness of gazebos, patios, smoking shelters, bike racks and or shelters, barbecue grills, outdoor furniture, etc.
  14. Relocate heavy, bulky items such as furniture, supplies, and linen by hand or using carts, dollies, or similar lifting/carrying devices.
  15. Responsible for control/movement of furniture, appliance, and equipment (FA&E) in assigned building. Assist management with assigned building inventory control program by: conducting annual inventory of assets located in rooms, lounges, common areas, and outdoor FA&E; ensure assets are tagged; track asset movements in and out of the building from replacement cycle, improvements, repairs, or damages.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  17. Guideline: The incumbent works under normal supervision and is expected to perform daily work on own initiative and carry out assignments in accordance with DoD and Navy regulations.
  18. Scope and Effect/Contacts: The work directly contributes to the military, retirees, and civilian members’ quality of life and mission readiness and contributes to job satisfaction and retention of valuable members. Contacts are made to coordinate and/or obtain information relating to housing, custodial, and general property operations.
  19. Physical Demand: This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, turning, twisting, stooping, reaching, operating cleaning equipment, and a variety of repetitive motions. Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing 20-pounds is required. May be required to climb/descend stairs and properly placed stepladders.
  20. Work Environment: Work is primarily performed indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Duties will require exposure to outdoors, resulting in exposure to weather conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to dust or dirt, disagreeable odors, and skin/eye irritants from strong cleaning solutions used in household cleaners, and when building undergo repairs or maintenance. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and must be used. The incumbent observes normal safety precautions when working in and away from the work site. Special care is required to avoid serious injuries.
  21. Special Requirements: The staff member may be recalled to duty and/or required to work overtime, including on an emergency basis.

 

BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Must possess basic math, reading and computer skills.
  • Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.

JOB SPECIFICATION: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

  • Oral and Written English Communication.

EDUCATION:

  • Must be a High School graduate or 3-years of work experience that demonstrates knowledge of basic principles, concepts, standards, regulations and administration related to housing organization, housekeeping and/or maintenance operations, policies/procedures, and practices in conducting day-to-day operations.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Working knowledge of cleaning procedures, cleaning equipment, commonly used chemicals (including SDS), basic safety, environmental, and fire prevention regulations and practices

Basic terms of the job offer.

  • Assignment Duration: 12 months. Renewal subject to performance and project status.
  • Base Monthly Salary: 48 hours per week minimum work requirement: $510.00 (based on 48 hr. work week requirement)
  • Working schedule: 48 hours per week (8 hours per day/6 days a week)
  • Payroll period: Monthly. Amount give take home.
  • Overtime: Work more than 8 hours per day or work performed on a rest day and/or holiday,

will be paid as overtime at the base salary rate.

  • Accommodations: Housing, transportation, meals in-country, and laundry facilities are provided
  • Sick Leave: Employee will accrue 2.67 hours of sick leave for each full month of service, beginning with the completion of the first full month of Foreign Service employment.
  • Annual leave Up to 21 days paid at the end of each 12-month contract.
  • Travel will be provided by the employer to the employee’s home country.
